ABSTRACT

It is gradually becoming an imperative for most people to have programming skills to aid them accomplish their daily jobs ranging from medicine to basic science, business and finance. Despite of this rapid growing need in computer programming profession the number of student enrolment into computer science program drastically reduced every year. This happened as a result of student having no prior knowledge of any programming language. Having no skill entails having less interest to take up the course as a carrier subject of interest. Scratch and Alice are part of the recent solution to these obstacles. This paper investigate how Scratch and Alice contributed in shaping the programming skills for kids using none-code or graphics programming in the form of drag-and-drop manner there by making the kid intrinsically and cognitively programming oriented.

ABSTRACT

This research evaluates the misuse of English prepositions among Hausa learners of English. English is today’s Lingua Franca, and its evolution is driven by the current demands for information and the need for global communication. This research aim to focuses on misuse of English prepositions among Hausa learners of English. A total number of fifty (50) questionnaires were given and received from the NCE 1 students of Department of English Language, FCE Kontogora. The questionnaires were analyzed based on the respondents. Despite the common notion that Hausa affects the use of English prepositions, the study revealed that most of the errors are intralingua errors that originate from the target language, English

           ABSTRACT

This study examined the impact of classroom management on students’ academic performance in government secondary school Agyaragu Centralin Nasarawa State. Two (2) research questions and two (2) hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study.  Expo-facto design was used for the study. The Population of the study are teachers and students drawn from the school under study. A total of 270 respondents comprising of 250 students and 20 teachers was used for the study.  Questionnaire developed by the researcher was used to collect data for the study. The questionnaire was structured into Likert format of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D) and Strongly Disagree (SD).  Mean and standard deviations were used to answer the two research questions, while chi-square (X2) test of goodness of fit was used to test the two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that teacher classroom management has impact on students’ academic performance in government secondary school Agyaragu Central and classroom management have positive influence on students’ academic performance in government secondary school Agyaragu Central. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that teachers should be properly train in classroom management for the attainment of goals.Also school


OUTDOOR CLASSROOM INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY AND GENDER AS DETERMINANTS OF STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN BIOLOGY IN IBADAN MUNICIPALITY, OYO STATE

ABSTRACT

Poor achievements of students recorded in Biology has been linked to the Conventional strategies been employed by Biology teachers taking the subject. There is need to employ relevant and practical instructional strategies. Researchers have suggested the use of Outdoor Classroom Instructional Strategy (OCIS) particularly among both student genders in senior secondary schools. It has been found that these variables have not been adopted in the teaching of Biology concepts. This study therefore determined outdoor classroom instructional strategy and gender as determinants of students’ achievement in biology

The pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design with was adopted. Two hundred and twenty three SS1 students from six randomly selected senior secondary schools in two local government areas of Ibadan Municipality, Oyo State were used for the study. The schools were randomly assigned to experimental (OCIS) and control (CIS) groups and the study lasted for twelve weeks. Five instruments were used namely: Teachers Instructional Guides for teachers using the treatment and control groups, Biology Students Achievement Test (r=0.84), and Assessment Sheets for evaluating research assistants. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA.

ABSTRACT

Effective communication involves ability to listen and understanding others opinion in such a way to pass across the main ideas or point to recipient. Communication skills entail means of passing information from one person to another. Effective curriculum delivery in teacher education is a process of shaping the school planned program in a way to meet current needs of learners in order to fit in the society, while teacher education is a kind of training rendered to teacher and teacher trainer to make them a quality teacher. This paper examines communication skills; curriculum, teacher education and propose the following recommendations, the teacher should endeavor to understand current communication skills that can help them to have good service delivery, teachers should know how to applied the communication skills and encourage their students to inculcate the spirit of enquiry and creative, teachers should be able to blend the communication skills in such a way that it will enhance their profession as crate enthusiasm environment, and institutions that run teacher education should monitored by the teacher education agencies to ensure adequate compliance with the rules and regulations of the program
