ABSTRACT
This paper is a literature review of the Impact of Universal Basic Education (UBE) Hausa language curriculum on literacy development. The Universal Basic Education curriculum is the basic education roadmap published by the federal government of Nigeria to guide the provision of basic education in Nigeria. Some of the objectives of the Hausa language curriculum include: to make pupils/students self-paced and innovative in Hausa language. And to develop sound foundation and competency that would motivate students/pupils to further their knowledge in Hausa language among others. The curriculum was found with deficiencies such as inadequate basic mathematical content and history of late statesmen and fallen heroes of Nigeria were not covered in the curriculum. The paper recommended that, the curriculum should cover syllable formation and how to break words and Hausa writing skills should be included in the curriculum from primary one to six.
